Playroom Hijinx

This room is a work in progress.  I really need to figure out how to cover up the cement in front of the fireplace, and I need to do it fairly soon!  Bubble wrap and pillows?  I have no idea yet how I’m going to tackle it.

This little monkey of ours is really starting to move.  He can pull himself across the floor now and he’ll be 6 months old tomorrow!  This succession of photos happened within about 2 minutes.  It’s not going to be long before he starts crawling and forces me to get some baby gates!  Perhaps I should get them now…

Take One.

Take Two.

Take Three.

Take Four.

Happy 6 Months Oscar!

The little man is 6 months old today!  He celebrated by taking a swim in his pool for the first time!  He is obsessed by water and cannot get enough.  He went from screaming in his baths when he was just a few weeks old to being a little fishy.  Now I have to take him out of the water before he’s ready – he just wants to play forever.

Oscar is staring at his squirty airplane and refused to look at the camera :(

Oscar loves his little airplanes.  The one pictured here has since been eaten by Jax (the one with his tongue in the pool).

Fighting Sleep to the Death of Me

play room

Oscar in his new play room!

This past month has been quite the roller coaster.  Oscar has decided that he wants to go back to waking 3-4 times a night, and getting him down to sleep has been a nightmare.  This kid sees his crib and screams!  Even when he’s that perfect amount of tired, when most people dive into their beds and go “ahhhhh I love my bed”, Oscar goes “AHHHHH!  GET ME THE #&$% OUT OF HERE!!!!”  I’m not kidding.  Our bedtime feeding has turned into suck, suck, suck, (turns head to look at crib) cry, cry, cry, suck suck suck, cry, cry cry, for about 20 minutes.

Needless to say I am exhausted.  I spent about 3 weeks in limbo somewhere between almost functioning and barely functioning.  This past week I have emerged finally able to function due to a few sporadic nights of only 2 night wakings.  Unfortunately, people I have spoken to recently about this matter have been about as comforting as a bed full of pointy rocks.  They say things like “my son didn’t sleep through the night until he was 3,” or “I know how you feel, my daughter has never slept through the night.”  Sweet Jebus (In The Simpsons sense – not in the Polish sense, though accurate.)

Despite Oscar’s inability to soothe himself to sleep, I can’t help but stare at this little person and think he’s just the most perfect little thing I’ve ever seen.  When the crying is over and he’s finally given in, he’s the cutest most peaceful little combination of his Mom and Dad, and I can’t wait to see the man he grows up to be.
